How To Clean Your Shower Head

Every time you use your shower, the head comes into contact with hard water.  Over time this can lead to limescale and bacteria build up within the shower head, resulting in blockages and poorer water flow.

Cleaning your shower head is simple and easy: it requires a household staple…….. vinegar.

Remember to use white vinegar when cleaning your shower head, as brown vinegar may cause discolouration.

How To Clean Fixed Shower Heads

  1. Fill a plastic bag (making sure it doesn't have holes in it) with a mixture of one-part white vinegar and three-parts water.

  2. Tie the plastic bag around the shower head to immerse it in the mixture and leave for at least 30 minutes.

  3. Remove the plastic bag.

  4. Wipe the head clean and run the shower to get rid of any excess.

How To Clean Adjustable Shower Heads

  1. Create a mixture that is one-part white vinegar and three-parts water. This should be enough to immerse the shower head in.

  2. Take the head off the shower hose by twisting.

  3. Let the head soak in the mixture for at least 30 minutes.

  4. Scrub the nozzles with an old toothbrush or rub them to remove unwanted limescale.

  5. Wipe the head to get rid of any excess grime or limescale and then reattach it.

How To Clean Limescale From Your Shower Head

It’s much easier to prevent limescale from building up on your shower head.  To tackle stubborn limescale, clean your shower head as above and after the head has soaked take an old toothbrush to the nozzles for a deeper clean.

Our shower heads also feature rub clean jets - gently rotating the jets with your fingers to help break up any scale inside the jets. To avoid rapid scale build up, we advise that after use you tilt the shower head at an angle, which will allow any excess water to drain away.

How Often Should You Clean Your Shower Head?

Cleaning your shower head monthly can help to reduce limescale buildup and remove bacteria.  If you live in an area with hard water, you may water to clean your shower head more frequently, as limescale can build up quicker.  Remember, limescale can cause blockages and lower your water pressure, ruining your showering experience.
