My remote is starting on the wrong outlet (Dual Outlet Green SmartValve used with: Quartz Classic, Unity Q, Smart Link, Elisa Incite)

Q: What's the issue with my Wired Remote and drencher head?

A: The top button on the Wired Remote always controls Outlet 1 of the SmartValve, and the second button controls Outlet 2 — this mirrors how a standard 2-button divert controller is wired. On many installations, though, the drencher head is plumbed into Outlet 2. Because the remote's top button can't be reassigned, this means the top button won't start the drencher head as you might expect. It isn't a fault — it just needs the outlet or the wiring reconciled using one of the two options below.

Q: How do I fix it?

A: There are two options:

Option 1 — Re-plumb to Outlet 1: Connect the drencher head pipework to Outlet 1 on the SmartValve. This is the simplest fix if you're still completing first fix, before the outlet pipework is finalised.

Option 2 — Swap the solenoid connectors: If the outlet plumbing is already installed and connected, swap the outlet solenoid connectors 1 and 2 on the SmartValve Logic Module instead. These are simple push-fit connectors — unplug each one and swap it into the other's port.

Q: Which option should I choose — re-plumbing or swapping the connectors?

A: If you haven't connected the outlet pipework yet, Option 1 (plumbing the drencher head to Outlet 1 directly) is the more straightforward long-term fix. If the plumbing is already in and tested, Option 2 (swapping the solenoid connectors at the Logic Module) avoids re-doing pipework.

Q: Will either option affect the labelling on my controller?

A: Yes. With either option, the icons on the controller/handset will no longer match the physical outlets. You'll need a "reversed graphics" controller to correct this — see below.

Q: What is a "reversed graphics" controller, and do I need one?

A: A reversed graphics controller has the icon layout flipped, so the labelling on your controller correctly reflects which physical outlet each button now controls (e.g. Outlet 1 = drencher). You'll need one once Option 1 or 2 has been carried out.

Q: How do I get a reversed graphics controller?

A: Contact Aqualisa Customer Services on 01959 560010. You'll be asked to provide the invoice or purchase receipt for both the shower and the remote control.

Q: I want the drencher head to run when I start the shower with the remote — what do I do?

A: This means you want the drencher head to be your primary outlet, which is exactly what Option 1 or Option 2 above sets up. Connect the drencher head to Outlet 1 (Option 1), or swap the solenoid connectors so Outlet 1 now feeds the drencher (Option 2). Once done, pressing the remote's top button will start the drencher head. You'll then need a reversed graphics controller so the icons on your controller match up correctly — see below.

Q: Does the primary outlet setup affect the Aqualisa App or a smart speaker too?

A: The App always treats Outlet 1 as the default primary outlet. A smart speaker defaults to whichever outlet was last used. The Wired Remote is the one control method where Outlet 1 is fixed as primary and can't be reassigned in software — which is why Option 1 or 2 is needed if you want the drencher head to be the one the remote's top button starts by default.

Q: Do I need to update the firmware before fitting the Wired Remote?

A: Yes. A firmware update to your SmartValve is essential for compatibility with the Wired Remote. For the Green model SmartValve specifically, the firmware update must be completed before the remote is connected — connecting first may cause the SmartValve to become unresponsive.

Q: How do I update the firmware?

A: Connect the shower to the Aqualisa App — download the app, create an account, and follow the pairing steps. This keeps the SmartValve on the latest firmware for compatibility, performance, and reliability, even if the app isn't used day-to-day afterwards.
