Susan McDermott placed the winning bid on the QTM smart shower, which Aqualisa donated to Headway’s online Silent Auction in December to raise money for the charity.
Susan sadly suffered an acquired brain injury and life-changing sight loss in a road traffic accident 15 years ago. With the help of Headway, a UK-wide charity that works to provide help and support to brain injury survivors, Susan was able to rehabilitate, get her first Guide Dog and return to full time employment in a position with the RNIB.
Aqualisa donated the QTM smart divert shower after staff at Aqualisa picked Headway as their chosen charity to support throughout 2018. In addition to the donation Aqualisa raised a further £600 for Headway through various events over the course of the year. These included an office bake sale and a 12-hour stationary bike riding challenge for Steven Harrington, part of the Outbound Retention team at Aqualisa.
Susan, who was looking for a shower to install in her new property, decided to place a bid on the Aqualisa QTM after visiting the Silent Auction webpage. Susan commented: “The bathroom in my new bungalow needs to be entirely replaced with a wet room to suit my specific requirements. As I was looking for a shower, I decided to bid as it would mean Headway, who have done so much for me, would benefit instead of a bathroom showroom or shop.
“When I found out I had made the winning bid I was very pleased, but then I began to worry I had made a mistake and that the shower would not be suitable for me; but, after speaking to the team at Aqualisa about the product, they assured me that the QTM would be simple to use and ideal for my needs due to the proximity sensor and its ability to remember my chosen settings.”
With its wide variety of customisable options, the Aqualisa QTM smart shower allows users to completely personalise their shower experience by specifying temperature, flow, outlet and shower duration. Users simply have to save that experience as a profile to repeat the shower experience again and again at the touch of a button. Importantly, the range also features precise temperature control, which holds water at the desired temperature for the duration of the shower without fluctuation.
“I haven’t just won a beautiful shower but something that will genuinely improve my quality of life and be safer for me than an ordinary shower with a couple of tactile markers stuck to the heat control,” Susan continued. “On top of that, the excellent service I received from Aqualisa gave me an immense boost to my self-esteem and made me feel like the old me. Not only did the team explain my new shower to me and give me advice on the installation, but they also helped me to find an installer. I had a splendid Christmas imagining what my new shower was going to be like.”
As well as completing his charity bike ride for Headway, it was Steven Harrington who liaised with Susan and helped explain how the QTM could help to simplify her shower routine. He commented: “We are overjoyed that we could not only raise some money for Headway by donating the shower but also make a real difference to Susan, for whom Headway has meant so much. Our shower has definitely ended up with the right person.”
